What are some advantages and disadvantages of a tag sale?
A tag sale can often times attract more people because it is usually conducted over a 2-4 day period ---------but auctions tend to attract the more serious buyer. Sales conducted from homes with quality modern furnishings & good household items, can produce good results with a tag sale. Tag sales work better in some neighborhoods than others & parking should always be a consideration. Often times, there are unsold items at a tag sale so you need to clarify with the liquidator what happens to those items. Houses on busy streets with considerable walking distance can discourage potential customers from shopping at a tag sale. We always advise in your best interest ------often times, we will conduct a tag sale for a client and hold some of the better items for auction. When does an auction work better than a tag sale?
Well advertised auctions produce better results when there are good antiques, collectibles and unusual items. Competitive bidding on those scarce and desirable items generates more money for the seller. Auctions attract the serious buyer. We hold 9 to 12 auctions annually usually at the Ashland County Fairgrounds. Our auction attendance is one of the largest in the state. We like this location as it is located half way between Cleveland, Columbus, Akron, Canton in addition to local county seats (Ashland, Wooster, Mansfield, Mt. Vernon, Millersburg, etc.) Our auction results in Ashland have a better track record than Cleveland auctions, and auction attendance in Central Ohio is better. If you have one good piece, an interesting collection, or several interesting antique pieces, we often can take these consignments. This can be beneficial for the person who is moving and has several good pieces left.
